Sense and Sustainability: Our Leather Story
Finest quality Italian leather is in our DNA: it's fundamental to every single Horizn Studios product. That's why we work with specialist leather tanners who are as committed as we are to environmental sustainability. In fact, our signature Vacchetta leather is traditionally vegetable-tanned; giving it a unique 'living' character and patina that develops over time. Where we can't use natural tannins, environmental impact is strictly kept to a minimum, so that we can carry on crafting beautiful bags that stand the test of time.
Your Vacchetta leather bag is a one-of-a-kind object: the centuries-old vegetable-tanning process that helped to create it makes for a truly distinguishable finish- no two bags are the same. This also means that its unique patina matures with you, characterfully absorbing traces of your adventures without ruining. The Tuscan artisan tradition is as sustainable as it is charming. The skins are a by-product of the food industry and the tannins used to lovingly treat them are found naturally in trees and vegetables, giving an unmistakably warm shade which only intensifies with time.
Our full-grain Italian leather is also naturally produced using vegetable tanning; making for a robust and distinctive finish which develops wonderfully over time. The coveted “full-grain” is achieved by selecting the top layer of the hide- with all its unique texture- and preserving its natural beauty through delicate and minimal processing. This makes for a “perfectly imperfect” finish to your bag; built to loyally accompany you anywhere from the daily commute to the international jet set.
We use high-quality Venetian Nappa leather, known for its “butter-soft” touch, milled grain and luxurious finish. Only the smoothest hides are chosen for the chrome-tanning process, giving a flawless and supple quality to your bag, designed to uniformly hold its colour throughout your travels.
