The Best Beaches in Mykonos

The Mykonos beaches to enjoy the Mediterranean’s most cosmopolitan island

It seems like Mykonos is the destination this year, with bronzed sunseekers infiltrating our Instagram feeds left and right. The windy island is one of the most cosmopolitan in the Med and it’s easy to see why. Get lost in the labyrinth of the whitewashed Chora, escape to some of Greece’s best beaches and dine at restaurants that can keep up with some of London’s best – or just dancing the night away at any of the (in)famous beach clubs. Mykonos is ripe for discovery.

Elia Beach

Elia is one of the largest and most beautiful beaches on the island. It’s relatively inexpensive and various watersport activities make it a great option for families. A word of warning: the further down the beach you go, the more clothing-optional it becomes.

This glamorous beach club is probably the most gay-friendly on the island. The drinks and food are both great, and come late afternoon, hordes of partygoers flock to the pool area to watch amazing drag shows over the Aegean.

Alemagou

A bohemian beach bar that looks like it would be right at home on the shores of the Mexican Riviera, Alemagou is famous for the incredibly fresh food and laid-back parties that get going in the afternoon.

Nammos

If popping champagne alongside celebrities is your sort of scene, then you’ll want to swing by Nammos on Psarou Beach. Superyachts are a common sight in the small bay and the parties here are famed throughout the Mediterranean.

Nikolas Taverna

This beachside taverna close to Agia Anna beach provides the quintessential island experience. Think fresh fish straight off the local fisherman’s boat chased down with copious amounts of ouzo, while chickens and wild turkeys run between the tables.

Kiki’s

Located on a windswept bay in the north of the island, Kiki’s is somewhat of a legend on the island. There’s no electricity, no reservations and frankly some of the best grilled seafood you’ve ever eaten. You’ll queue for a good hour or two to have lunch here, but the food (and views) are worth the wait.

Caprice

With great views of the windmills and Little Venice, Caprice is a Mykonos staple. It’s a great place to catch the sunset in town, and there are nice drinks, as well.

Scorpios

If you’re into Bohemian-style hedonism served on a salvaged silver platter by tattoo-covered waiters and Victoria Secret models fueled by mezcal, then Scorpios is your place. It oozes in style, the parties are wild and the people-watching unparalleled. The food here is superb, but you’ll pay premium for the views.

Kastro’s

Right in Little Venice, this beautiful bar is famous for its reasonably priced drinks and incredible sunset views.
