Designer Showcase

Take a peek into #horiznUNPACKED at Milan Design Week ’17

We are thrilled to be a part of one of the world’s most prestigious and pioneering design events – Milan Design Week. As a brand driven by technology and design, we partnered with Airbnb to present a travel-inspired showcase in collaboration with 10 of the most influential design figures – running all of this week at the iconic Casa degli Atellani – where none other than Leonardo da Vinci once lived and worked. Each designer was given free reign to style up our signature Horizn Cabin Luggage with the personal travel items they just couldn't live without. From sneakers to sketchbooks, you can check out the amazing designers and the contents of their Trolleys below in #horiznUNPACKED.

SAMUEL BARON

Tipped as one of the ten most important designers of the next decade by Philippe Starck, the French designer, consultant and director of Fabrica is known for his re-interpretation of everyday objects and household items; brilliantly treading the line between art and design. Since collecting fruit stickers as a boy and imagining their exotic origins, he has always been fascinated by the way you can experience an object by means of an attached value, location or association. Now working and living between France, Portugal and Italy, he finds much of his inspiration between places and cultures.

SHANTELL MARTIN

Brooklyn-based artist and friend of Horizn, Shantell Martin is making waves across the world with her unique marker pen drawings – which have transformed everything from walls, found objects, and sneakers, to cars and circuit boards. Her work – “part autobiographical and part dreamlike whimsy” – bridges fine art, performance art, technology and the everyday experience.

ROSSANA ORLANDI

After over two decades in the fashion business, working as a spin yarn consultant for labels such as Giorgio Armani and Donna Karan, in 2002 she decided to turn her passion for design as a private collector into an innovative gallery. Galleria Rossana Orlandi has established itself as one of the most revered platforms for avant-garde design and lifestyle, forecasting new and upcoming designers and reflecting the most trailblazing scenes from around the world.

YVES BÉHAR

The influential, multiple-award-winning Swiss industrial designer and founder of Fuseproject and Jawbone is renowned for his sustainable approach to commercial design – with an extremely varied portfolio including everything from wearable tech, to a home security system, to a DNA testing machine. He travels the globe collaborating with brands as diverse as Herman Miller, GE, Puma, PayPal, SodaStream, Samsung and Prada.

CRISTINA CELESTINO

With a great curiosity for objects of past and present, the Italian interior designer, architect and owner of Attico plumbs the potential of shape and function to encompass the worlds of fashion, art and design in her work – spanning from limited-edition gallery and museum pieces to brand commissions. Her 2016 installation for Fendi, ‘Happy Room’ referenced ’50s furniture to create a chic “traveling VIP space” for lucky shoppers around the world.

VIRGIL ABLOH

Kanye West’s longtime creative director and collaborator and head of effortlessly cool Milan luxury label, Off-White, the American designer, DJ and stylist lives and breathes streetwear. He is also rarely off the plane; spreading his working life across countless locations in America, Asia and Europe.

J.J. MARTIN

California-born, Milan-based fashion writer, J.J. Martin’s style sense goes far beyond clothes. From her work as Editor at Large of Wallpaper Magazine and boss of her own lifestyle website, LaDoubleJ, to her home – featured in some of the most chic decor magazines – she lives design, art, architecture and fashion inside-out. Naturally, she is also a huge travel enthusiast and counts Conde Nast Traveler among her regular titles.

PHILIPPE MALOUIN

Director of the architectural and interior design practice, POST-OFFICE, and W Hotels’ ‘Designer of the Future’, the London-based Canadian artfully mixes unexpected materials to create clean and cutting-edge interiors. His diverse design portfolio includes tables, rugs, chairs, art objects and installations – merging timeless style with functionality.

KELLY BEHUN

Having explored careers in finance, fashion and the music industry before discovering her talent for interior design, Kelly Behun spent six years as a member of Ian Schrager’s design team, working alongside the likes of Andrée Putman and Philippe Starck on hotels across the US. Her New York-based Kelly Behun Studio now provides a highly bespoke approach to interior design projects and its exclusive line of furniture and home accessories – earning countless features, exhibitions and accolades.

MICHAEL ANASSTASIADES

With a background in industrial design, Cyprus-born Michael Anasstasiades launched his studio in 1994 to explore contemporary notions of culture and aesthetics through a combination of furniture, product and environmental design. Translating outdoor inspirations such as electricity pylons or string lighting to the interior context, he is most well-known for his elegant lighting designs which combine linear structures with geometric shapes and reflective surfaces.
